has anyone tried having a sheetmetal setback manifold made on a promod or ihra funnycar, i saw a hogan unit on jim rodecks nostalgia fuel dragster last year at bakersfield, he had his 671 way back, it had long runners and a small plenum just like a 4 barrel manifold or a late model top fuel manifold, i run an alcohol dragster with a 451ci bae fat head 5 motor and a 1671 hi helix retro, at the moment i run a bae manifold with a set back plate, the front of the opening in the front bearing plate is pretty much inline with the front of number 3 and 4 intake runners its a long way back, it did change the fuel distribution a bit and evened them up slightly but i dont think we got a great deal of gain out of it, if any one has tried the sheet metal deal let me know what your thoughts were.
one more question just to keep people thinking, if opening up the front bearing plate on the outlet side of the blower to expose the ends of the rotors helps to discharge the air (retro) would it do the same to help draw air in if you did the same on the top or inlet side of the blower and move the injector forward? let me know, maybe people have tried it
    thanks aaron

The main place on the top of the blower that the air goes in is towards the back of the top opening. At higher spped the airflow in the hat stays towards the backside so what you really need is the back of the lower opening of the hat to mate smoothly and directly with the back part of the top of the blower hole. Sometimes the hat overlaps the hole in the blower so the air hits a ridge made of the blower top so in this case moving the hat forward some does help. Do not close up the blower inlet hole. Most hat spacers move the hat forward at an angle to smooth the entry air flow out.

This would be a great thread if a few of you would take the time to post up some pics, I am working on something right now for our hat to test in the spring.
