Looking at taking the crank bolt from 7/16 to 1/2 (both NF) for more clamp load. This is a blown alky small block, crank has a small snout on it, i run a crank support. 8000RPM combo

Greg, don't know if this will help, but my N/A smallblock has a small snout and a 1/2-20 thread.

one thing you can do is drill the hole deeper so when tight you are pulling on the main more than the thin snout also use a bbc main seal on front cover that will make the hub live

Thanks guys. Sounds like a go on the bigger bolt.

A bigger snout is next. Have to plan that one though, gear drive parts, etc. :)

    APpreciate the input.

Greg, what is your reasoning for going with a bigger bolt?

More clamp load against the blower hub to keep it from stretching the 7/16 bolt when it starts moving around.

Kill is good. Overkill is better....i think.

Greg, for what its worth we never had a problem on the Dinosaur with the 7/16 bolt with the small snout and support. Whats going on with yours? Congrats on Q1 at the MM. BOB dietz

Hey Bob. Thanks. That was the saving grace for the weekend. :)

I sheared a key on the next run. Snout looks ok but scared up. looking at a new crank. Miss you guys out there. Just looking for clamp load on the nose to keep it from rattling.
