    Hi guys.

A question for those who have funny car chassis' here :) How wide is your shoulder hoop on the car and what sort of height do you have from top to bottom rails below the headers? Ours I think is quite narrow at 19", and as such the motor is sitting between rails about 18 1/2" at the motor plate.

This in turn means our top and bottom rails below the headers are quite shallow as it nearly hugs the block. I believe if the chassis was wider then the top rail could almost be under the header flange and then give a greater width from top and bottom rails.

If you do say what dimensions you have, can you state what make it is? MW, S&W, Homemade or?

    Thanks guys!

We had Murf Mckinney build us a chassis the end of last year with a shoulder hoop of 22". He said he built a chassis for John Force 23" wide, but it was a three rail car. 22" was as wide as he would do for a 2 rail car.

victory has started making their chassis 1 inch wider now to accommodate the Fontana engine better, and the cages are usually 21 inches

Very true Bob, I should have probably made that more clear.

The 19" is the inner width of the shoulder hoop.

It's very interesting to find the differences here in shoulder hoop widths, it's certainly giving me food for thought!

    Thanks everyone, it's massively appreciated!

I have always used "inside" dimension at the forward tangent of bends.
Standard seems to be 20", but then usually needs "shoulder pockets".
With today's mandatory poured seat pads, it can be adjusted easier, and adds better resale value if it's wider from the start.
I am finishing a "big man" car right now that is 23" inside, and needs no pockets.

I was thinking of putting shoulder pockets in my car to get a little more room when I put in a pour in seat.
