Running a promag44 with 5 stage timer and six shooter currently and changing to a powergrid,do i have to change my points box with rev limiter to the standard points box?
    Thanks Jason

do a search on here, or yellowbullet.com, we had a Power grid, and got rid of it, nothing but problems.... 8973 works ...

Really? Not saying your wrong, just curious what type of problems you and others have been having?

Heard the same on the 8973, a ton of bad things on that initially. However we never had any problems. However it was a rear engine dragster so the box was not near the mag/wires and we set it up with the MSD capacitor on the supply side and diodes on any big coils in the car to prevent voltage transients. The reason I say this is that the 8973 also had a lot of teething issues till MSD and others learned how to isolate it from noise.

As far as I know, the PowerGrid isn't compatable with the existing ways(Leahy/Racepak) of physically monitoring timing just yet. Not saying it wasn't a problem, but many have used with great success. I suppose like every other MSD part though, "It checks just fine.".

Here we go again. First the 8973 did weird timing and now the Power Grid. First understand that neither has the capability to add timing over what your base timing is. If your static timing is 25 degrees then you can never see 26 degrees. It is impossible. The boggest problem with any electronics with a Promag is interference from that big spark. If using a crank trigger with either then the crank trigger cable has to be shielded and the shield grounded to the chassis. You also need to rout thst crank trigger cable by itself and away from any othe wires. If you add an extension cable to the crank trigger it had to slso be shielded and grounded.

one of the reasons im going to powergrid is its adjustability and monitoring capabilities,so i hope racepak can read timing of the powergrid, i have a v300sd vnet system that i hope is compatible.

I use the Leahy timing monitor to the Racepak SC1000 (the old one) with the ProGrid and it down loads fine. Like Mike said you have to shield and ground all wires to or from the Mag
