My old clutch setup used a pilot in the back of the crank, the new clutch has a bore machined into the flywheel for a pilot brg. Book says pilot in the flywheel is more common, I've never seen it that way. Is one better or can I just stick to the way it is now (brg in crank)?

    Thanks

is it a Hemi? Chev's go in the crank flange.. Hemi's have that wonderful pilot bearing with a snap ring on it that goes in the flywheel.

Also, your input shaft is probably cut to have the bearing where it already is..

I machined my input shafts to work either way, the Chevy way or by using an adaptor, the hemi way. Some of our cranks have hemi crank flanges so this is how I kept things interchangeable.

Its a Chevy so I'll just keep everything the way it is.

    Thanks

Comax: What is the brand of your new clutch?

Justin: "Hemi's have that wonderful pilot bearing with a snap ring" Are you being sarcastic? if so, is there some common problem with this setup? maybe you can save some of us from undue expense.

After having to chisel, weld, cut and beg to remove some broke ones out the crank, I went to one in the flywheel

I wish I had a better pilot bearing setup for everyone.. The problem is that there's so much flex built in to everything around the motor, everything moves.. a lot..
